Albrecht Dürer Artists' Watercolor Pencils carry the name of German artist Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528) who early on created botanical, wildlife and landscape watercolor paintings. Although he became well known early in his twenties for his prints, he is still respected as one of the greatest artists of the Renaissance in Northern Europe.
Faber-Castell is pleased to offer artists a professional watercolor pencil bearing his name and recognizing his legacy.
Albrecht Dürer Watercolor Pencil
Introduced in 1980, the pencils are comprised of the highest quality pigments with superior lightfastness characteristics and water-soluble binders. They are hexagonal in shape, contain thick 3.8mm leads and are housed in premium cedar wood.
Marks can be 90% erased from paper with a soft eraser only prior to applying water. After dissolving and releasing the colors they become near permanent and cannot be erased. Albrecht Dürer Watercolor Pencils are completely water-soluble and adhere firmly to the paper and do not require fixing.
64 of 120 colors are rated with *** lightfastness.
Albrecht Dürer Magnus Watercolor Pencil
The Albrecht Dürer Magnus Watercolor Pencils contain 5.3mm extra thick, fully water-soluble lead! Color laydown is very soft and vibrant.
Pencils are designated with the *** lightfast rating (100+ years of fade resistance) for all 30 individual colors currently available.
The product is ideal for the artist creating large scale works.
Dipping Watercolor Pencils
It is not recommended to dip the tips of Faber-Castell watercolor pencils into water as it will compromise the integrity of the pencil. The lead and wood become soft and will become brittle which will then break easily. Humidity changes the structure of the lead and makes it crumble. The wood will soak up the water and the pencil cannot be sharpened any longer. We recommend experimenting with many techniques to create your own style as there are various watercolor applications.
You may want to try:
Paint over a colored surface on the paper or canvas with a damp brush. The more often the surface is painted over, the more the strokes will dissolve.
You can dissolve the color pigment with a spray bottle too!
